Stumbling through the dark, in a foreign hotel room, I was desperately looking for the bathroom in the most serious way. Green around the gills was putting it lightly. As I heaved my guts out, and continued to do so until I nearly turned myself inside out, I realized what must have happened… dinner. We were the first in the restaurant for dinner, maybe we were the only ones who didn’t realize this wasn’t the place to dine?

We’d sat at the sushi bar because we just wanted to make this a simple affair and head out. The chef had created a few free pieces for us to try. It wasn’t really what I was looking for, but it looked good and free sounded good, so we gobbled a few down and then ordered what we wanted.

The food we ordered was far better than the free and as I hugged the cool white porcelain I knew what made me sick – it was the free stuff.

We see the same in the merchant services business. Of course “free terminals” sounds good, but it can come with hooks, catches and unexpected things that may make you feel sick.
